Terms & Conditions

Showcase National Dance Championships takes pride in presenting Australia and New Zealand’s most prestigious and professional competition. Please read all rules and regulations carefully, as failure to comply could result in disqualification. The results in judging will be final, and no teacher, parent, or student will question our judges or staff concerning the result of any part of the competition.


Submitting Your Music
  • All CD’s must be of good quality, clearly labeled, and only one track of music per CD.
  • There will be a 5 point deduction for CD’s that are not set up correctly
  • We no longer accept Audio Tapes
  • Tap sounds will not be permitted on tapes in Tap categories if unsure please contact us.
  • Singing or vocals will not be permitted on the backing track for Song and Dance categories, in song section, however we do allow for some backing vocals, and full vocals on the dance section only.

Age Catagories
  • Age of competitors will be taken from the 31st Decemeber 2010.
  • Your age at the regional will lock you in for the National Finals.
  • The average age will determine the age division into which duo/trio & groups fall. Please add up all the ages of the contestants, and divide by the number of performers in the act. If the age ends in .5 for example the average age is 11.2 OR 11.8 the point automatically gets dropped and the average age is 11.
  • Dancers 13 years and over will not be permitted to perform in the Junior division for groups if average age is 11 years or lower, they must compete 12 years or above in groups .
  • No performer will be permitted to Dance out of age group or section, and must be ready to perform at the stated time in the official program.

Age Groups
  • 5/under 6-7yrs, 8-9-yrs, 10-11yrs, 12-13yrs, 14-15yrs 16-17yrs 18-25yrs, 26yrs & over.
  • Some categories may be classified as junior 11/under, and Senior age’s 12/over, 15/over depending on entries received.
  • Petite is 8 under, Junior is 9 to 11 years, Pre Teen is 12 to 14 years, Senior is 15 over.

Performances
  • 5 Points will be deducted if contestants do not perform in scheduled sequence
  • You must be ready to perform at least 3 acts before yours, unless permission is granted by the stage manager, please ensure you have cleared your act schedule change first if for a costume change.
  • A performer may never compete against themselves in solos, and not more than 50% in Duo/Trio may be the same person in a category and age division.
  • Studios will be permitted to compete against themselves in groups.
  • All routines must be appropriate for family viewing.
  • If a judge or the Directors of Showcase feels that a routine or costume is too suggestive or inappropriate for our audience, the routine may be stopped, and points will be deducted and will not be eligible for a special or cash award.
  • We are now taking action on acts that are too risqué!
  • Contestants will be responsible for preparing and removing all props and a time limit of 45-seconds to set or break down props will apply. If you litter the stage, you are responsible for cleaning the stage area.
  • Lighting effects will not be permitted for any act, nor will be the house curtain.
  • Any discrepancy in score sheets must be brought to the attention of Showcase directors on that day of competition.
  • No protest will be accepted after the day of competition. Only Studio Directors will be permitted to approach the Showcase Directors concerning any problems, if they may arise.
  • Any act that is not completed will not be eligible for any cash or high point awards, if the score is over 85 points it will still qualify for our national finals, If it is not completed, a special award may be presented.
  • Performers will not be allowed to return to the stage to run the routine again-No exceptions. Includes all ages
  • Coaching or prompting during a performance will result in a 20-point deduction. This must be brought to the attention of the Showcase Directors while it is happening, persons including parents are not permitted back stage unless placing props.
  • All contestants grant permission to the Directors of Showcase, to use their photographs or to appear on local and/ or National television to promote its competitions.

Time Limits
  • Solo’s under 11 years 2 ½ mins, 3mins 12 over, Duo/trios 3 mins, Fashion Modelling 1 1/2 mins, Song and dance Solos/ Duos 3 ½ mins all ages, Groups 4 Mins. Production groups-5 mins.
  • A 5-point deduction will apply to any act that runs from 5 to 15 seconds overtime, and a 10-point deduction will apply to any act that runs more than 16 seconds overtime. Acts will be timed from when the music begins, or from when the first Dance step takes place, which ever is first. Tags, exit music will also be included in time limit.
  • No correspondence will be entered into any act that has points deducted for overtime or for any other reason, please check

Awards
  • All performers must be present at the awards presentation to receive their awards.
  • No awards will be given at other times, or to another representative, this will be strictly enforced.
  • We do not post out awards or score sheets.
  • Winners photos must also be collected at the competition.
  • There must be at least 15 pre-registered entries in each age division i.e. 15 junior duo/trios for cash award to be out at regional competition shows.
  • Ties for 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes will be broken for all categories, equal 4th, 5thand 6th prizes may be awarded and no predetermined amount of acts in a category will apply.
  • Photogenic awards Cash awards are awarded in full amount when there are more than 260 acts at the regional city Less than 259 acts is based on a min of 15 acts in each Division, IE 15 Junior Duo’s and will be halved in value Cities with more than 350 acts will have all cash prizes doubled (excluding elite titles)

  • High point Junior Solo 11 under $100.00
  • High Point Senior Solo 12 over $100.00
  • High Point Duo Junior 11 under $100.00
  • High Point Duo/Trio Senior 12 over $100.00
  • High Point Junior group 11 under $200.00
  • High Point Senior Group 12 over $200.00
  • Elite Title awards each age group winner $200.00
  • Petite, Junior, Pre Teen, Senior Highest Scoring overall act at each regional $100.00
  • Additional Awards & Outstanding Studio Achievement Awards
  • Outstanding Studio Choreography awards
  • Regional Entertainment Studio award
  • Costume awards

Use of Video recorders/Cameras
  • If video cameras or photo cameras are found in the competition Venue, Showcase reserves the right to take the videotape being used.
  • Teachers, please inform parents and students of this rule, as it may result in disqualification.
  • You may take photos of the awards presentations only

General Entry Conditions
  • No phone will be accepted.
  • All entries must be accompanied with full payment.
  • There will be a $25 charge (plus any bank fees) if Australian Talent Showcase receives a cheque back from the bank as unpaid for whatever reason, from any individual, or studio, and all future cheques must be paid by bank cheque.
  • All Cheque’s Payable to Australian Talent Showcase
  • Teachers or professional dancers must perform in the Teacher Feature category.
  • Entry fees are not refundable, entries are transferable to another city, however- we must receive in writing from you before the city you are transferring from is closed, after the city closes entry fees are non transferable, a transfer fee of $20 is also payable per entry form. No exceptions. Entry fees cannot be transferred to National Finals.
  • Sportsman like behavior is expected at all times. Failure to display proper decorum will result in disqualification.
  • Any studio or student that abuses dressing rooms will be disqualified.
  • A cleaning fee of $200 minimum will be charged to any studio leaving dressing rooms untidy.
  • Showcase and the hosting facility, are not responsible for any property loss or injury to any persons attending the event and lost property will be left at the venue for your collection.
  • Showcase and Studio directors will be keeping close monitor on persons in the dressing room areas, Teachers may be asked to provide backstage passes to stage hands.
  • Showcase reserves the right to add or delete competition days, or move competition location, due to unforeseen circumstances and entries will not be refunded if Showcase extends dates.
  • All entries are taken on first come basis, we also reserve the right to refuse any entry.
  • Closing dates are only a guide.
  • Please send all entries early, as most regional competition shows fill quickly. Teachers are asked to send all studio entries together, with one cheque enclosed with total amount payable.
  • Please ensure you enter the correct categories. A $8.00 charge fee for each change [category, age group or music] will automatically apply. There will be no exceptions to this.
  • Showcase has now been declared a good stage parent event, we will no longer tolerate, parents who conduct themselves in an unacceptable and offensive manner towards participants or our staff, be seen not heard! Lifetime bans for individuals and studios (which have already been carried out) will be enforced.
  • We request you do not enter our event if you cannot control yourself. This also includes Teachers. In our 2008 season we had excellent conduct from studios/parents attending
  • Competitors and studios are allowed to travel to multiple regional cities to qualify for the National Finals and we encourage this opportunity.
  • All entries must be on the official Showcase entry form. Please duplicate if necessary.
  • Entry forms must be fully completed please use a separate form for a solo and duo/trios, do not place on the same entry forms it may not be picked up by our staff.
  • At our National finals we will be adding in the Ruby and Diamond levels see info sheets.
  • Incorrect acts in a category will result in a 5-point deduction. This will be up to the decision of the judges and/or the Showcase directors.
  • All acts that qualify at the regional competition show must be repeated as the same routines in the National Finals.
  • You must receive a minimum of 85 points per act once averaged between the judges, to be eligible to compete in the National Finals, regardless of your placing at the Regional competition shows. This is a High Silver, Elite Gold award or Platinum Gold award.
  • An advanced schedule will be posted to each participating studio approx. 10 days prior to your Regional competition show, listing the times and events for all dance sections.
  • Programs will be distributed at the Regional competition show only. You are requested to order a program with your entries as limited will be on sale at the event. It is your responsibility to ensure you are aware of your performance schedule and times. We will only send advanced schedules and act confirmations to those individuals that send a self-stamped addressed envelope with their entries.

Solo, Duo/Trio & Group catagories
  • Hip Hop: NEW a routine that utilizes Hip Hop/ Breakdance or Rap movements
  • Tap Solo: Any style or tempo of tap permitted.
  • Slow Tap: Must be slow tap movements, choreographed to slow tempo music of any timing, waltz tap also accepted.
  • Jazz: A routine using jazz technique, with such moves as kicks, splits, isolations etc.
  • Broadway Jazz: A jazz routine that must be performed to music from a Broadway musical, the music does not have to be the original sound track.
  • Ballet: Routine that must include classical steps and Ballet technique. Ballet shoes only to be worn.
  • Lyrical/Modern: Also known as modern expressive. Slow controlled balletic movements, set to slow music or balled. Routines must demonstrate balance, flexibility and control utilizing the lyrics or mood of the music.
  • Contemporary: Interpretive Dance using balance and control. Must be of contemporary style.
  • Student Choreography: Must be 100% student produced, no teacher assistance, may be solo, duo/trio or group.
  • Open Category: For solos only. You may perform any style of dance, but cannot repeat a routine performed in another category, e.g. you may perform another Jazz, Tap, or Song and Dance routine.
  • Song & Dance: Routine that must contain both singing & any style of Dance (Tap, Jazz) no lead vocals or contestant’s voice is allowed on the tape in Song section of routine.
  • Acrobatic: A routine which must contain acrobatic/gymnastic passes, walkovers, etc. Definite choreography should be used to blend Acro tricks into routine.
  • Miss Future Broadway Star: This an open category and the performer can chose any style of dance to perform. Production: A routine utilizing a group of at least 10 dancers, incorporating any style of Dance. This has a time limit of 5 mins.
  • Fashion Modeling: Model catwalk, any style of outfit eg. Sports, Formal, Swim war, casual wear. Time limit 1 min ONLY, and own music to be supplied.
  • Teacher feature: This category is for the teachers to perform as a solo, duo/trio or group, or production in any style of Dance.
  • Photogenic Award: Start your way on to a modeling career with this category, awards will be presented to the photograph deemed most photogenic by our judges.
  • Entrants must submit a recent photo (black & white or colour) Do not send with your entries but bring with you to the regional event, if you forget your photograph no refund will be given. Please write your name address, phone #, studio on the back. Photo’s will be returned to you on the day of competition at the regional, but contestants will be responsible for obtaining their photo on that day Showcase is not responsible for loss or damages to any photograph submitted, and will not post photographs out after the event
  • You must attend a regional event to be eligible for our National Finals, if you live more than 250 klms from a regional then you can Enter via our Video entry regional, please call our office for more details.
  • Video/DVD entries will be accepted for acts that live more than 250klms from a regional city listed, please contact us
